TL;DR — Organization schema is the schema.org markup that declares a business's canonical identity to machines: legal name, logo, URL, contact points, address, and — critically — sameAs links to the brand's verified profiles on other platforms. Published as JSON-LD, usually site-wide with a stable @id, it is the anchor record engines use to resolve every mention of the brand to one entity. Search engines feed it into knowledge panels; AI engines use the same identity graph to attribute, describe, and recommend the brand accurately.
Definition & scope
The sameAs array does disproportionate work: pointing to the brand's Wikipedia/Wikidata entry, LinkedIn, and authoritative directory profiles gives engines corroborating sources to triangulate identity, which is exactly how ambiguous names get disambiguated.
Implementation discipline: one canonical Organization node with a stable @id referenced by other schema on the site (Article author/publisher, Product brand), so every markup type on the site chains back to the same verified entity.
