TL;DR — A knowledge graph is a structured database of entities — brands, people, products, places — and the factual relationships between them, which search engines and AI systems consult to answer questions about the real world. Google's Knowledge Graph is the best-known instance; it powers Knowledge Panels and feeds entity understanding across Search, Gemini, and AI Overviews. For a brand, being represented accurately in the Knowledge Graph means engines treat you as a known entity with verified attributes, rather than an ambiguous string of words.

Definition & scope

Knowledge-graph presence is built deliberately: consistent Organization schema with sameAs links, corroborating profiles (Wikidata, LinkedIn, Crunchbase, industry directories), and consistent name-address-attribute data everywhere the brand appears. Engines cross-check these signals before promoting an entity to "known" status.

The AI-era payoff is that LLMs inherit entity understanding from the same graph infrastructure. A brand that resolves cleanly to a knowledge-graph entity is easier for AI engines to attribute, cite, and recommend — and harder to confuse with similarly named businesses.
