TL;DR — E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness — the framework Google's quality rater guidelines use to describe what trustworthy content looks like. It is not a single ranking factor but a bundle of signals: demonstrable first-hand experience, credentialed authorship, third-party recognition, and verifiable business identity. The framework matters beyond Google: AI answer engines preferentially cite sources that carry the same signals, because their retrieval ranking is tuned to favor authoritative, verifiable content — especially for health, finance, and other consequential topics.

Definition & scope

The first E, Experience, was added in December 2022 and is the most actionable for commerce brands: content that demonstrates the author actually used, sold, tested, or supported the product reads differently from aggregated summaries — to raters, to ranking systems, and to LLMs deciding which source to quote.

In practice, E-E-A-T work means named authors with real credentials, an about page and organization schema that verify the business, editorial standards worth citing, and third-party corroboration (reviews, press, industry mentions) that makes the authority claim checkable.
